Chairman of Kadin Indonesia Arsjad Rasjid: Economic Growth Target of 8% Can Be Achieved, Role of Young Generation Expected

The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) today held a dialogue with young people from various communities in the Gen8 Talk event: 8% Can. Held at Ganara Art Space, FX Sudirman, Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Arsjad Rasjid together with the Kadin Indonesia Daily Executive Board presented the study results of the White Paper Proposed/Recommended Policy Direction and Economic Development for 2024 - 2029.

Chairman of Kadin Indonesia, Arsjad Rasjid, said ‘We understand that to achieve 8% economic growth, it is necessary to collaborate and cooperate with various parties. Moreover, Indonesia's young generation is faced with various challenges, so transformation and adaptability are key to continue to grow and advance. I hope today's event becomes a forum for cross-generational discussions, with the same commitment to encourage real action to achieve the national growth target.’

The national economic growth target of 8% in the next 5 years is an absolute requirement to achieve the Golden Indonesia Vision 2045. Previously, Indonesia had achieved 8% growth five times. To achieve this target, Indonesia needs to accelerate the pace of sustainable and inclusive economic growth. One of them is by optimising Indonesia's competitive advantages, including the world's 4th largest workforce, rich biodiversity and green resources; strong and stable economic growth in the last two decades, as well as various strategic partnerships at the regional and global levels such as the G20 and ASEAN.

‘As part of the collaboration to achieve the 8% economic growth target, Kadin Indonesia has prepared a white paper containing proposed strategic priorities for Indonesia's economic development for the next five years. We hope this white paper can be a reference for the government in preparing work plans and development programmes for 2024-2029 as a foundation towards Indonesia Emas 2045,’ said Arsjad.

The White Paper, which was prepared in an inclusive and collaborative manner by involving businesses from various regions, research institutions, and other stakeholders, is divided into 4 (four) strategic pillars and 18 growth themes. Each growth theme is translated into initiatives with steps to achieve the growth theme and the targeted impact on gross domestic product (GDP). If all initiatives are implemented, 16-18 million jobs will be created from income impacts and an additional 5 million jobs from capital expenditure impacts by 2029.

As for the 18 growth themes, there are 7 priority growth focus areas that will contribute around USD 400 - 450 billion or equivalent to 80% of GDP in the next five years. The seven priority growth areas include integrated, accessible and affordable infrastructure; building health security and transforming health services, realising energy security, accelerating MSME growth, strengthening the manufacturing base through re-industrialisation, building the world's largest green business development centre, and building a self-sustaining food security ecosystem.
